More Courage!

So Ken's doctors appointment for the blood sugar wasn't so fun. He is now dealing with diabetis. He has to check his blood sugar 6 times a day. OUCH! He is taking medicine and trying to understand what foods effect his blood sugar levels. The doctor also wants him to take cholesterol medicine and have his eyes checked.

I think that Ken is sick of doctor's appointments, being poked, bleeding, having bruises, taking medicine, ect., but he keeps on going and telling jokes, singing his songs and trying to find the joy the day. He inspires me!

Diabetes on top of all that! Well, he is an inspiration to me. I know that you are happy that it is coming to an end-all the chemo. I will be happy for your family when life will seem more normal and there won't be so many doctor appt's, poking, discomfort or pain. We love you!

I'm so glad that the chemo is almost done. But then now diabetes and checks 6 times a day. OUCH is right! I'm glad he is keeping a positive attitude too. He and your family are an inspiration to me. I hope that he can get his sugars controlled soon and that you guys can get back to a somewhat regular life. We love and the offer still stands...if you need anything I'm just a phone call away. And I am SERIOUS, k? Love your niece, Michelle

I am so glad Ken finally went in to the doctor for his blood sugar levels!! His fight has been so valiant with his cancer treatments let's hope the meds for his new ailments will work quickly to bring those into contol. Wow how fast the time has flown by. I cannot believe that his treatment for cancer is almost done. WHOO HOO!! I am sure it will be a challenge to work on the diabetic diet! Boy your kids genetics have a whammy with 3 of their 4 grandparent that have (had) diabetes, and now their dad!!!
HANG IN THERE YOU ALL!! We love you, and will continue to pray for you. Love, ANN and family

Uncle Ken...no fear...now there are magically delicious treats (thanks to Russell Stover)you can eat that are diabetes friendly. Unlike those awful hard candies that Grandma used to eat. YUCKY!

Although, I don't have diabetes I have had quite the 'love affair' with sugary snacks (i.e., doughnuts, cakes, cookies, pie, bread drizzled w/ honey)grr...I'm salivating even as I type this...it's like a drug for me!

Anyway, I have been on and off sugar for the last several years thus, the 20-30lb. weight fluctuation.

I tend to feel so much better when I avoid those foods I love most. I'm always looking for healthier ways to eat these foods so I don't feel so deprived.

My latest find was the Low Glycemic Index Diet Book, there are some tasty recipes in there. I'll send you a few of my faves.

So sorry about your new diagnosis. That just sucks! But, I'm glad to hear that you are near chemo completion. You are awesome--YOU ROCK!

love ya, allie
